Plant Food Research supports a collaborative approach to research, development and commercialisation to create greater impact. When developing intellectual property in collaboration with others, Plant Food Research will work with these partners to identify the party that is best placed to manage the IP and develop the full scope of the technology and its potential utilization. His past roles include senior roles with Toyota New Zealand Ltd, the New Zealand Dairy Board and Wrightson Ltd. Colin has a background in the commercialisation of early stage lifesciences technology. In 2014 Juliet was appointed Professor in the School of Biological Sciences and School of Chemical Sciences at The University of Auckland.
Ms Pezic was previously General Manager at Whitcoulls Group Ltd, and has extensive experience in financial management, general management, strategy development and process change. Mr Stuart is a Partner in Movac, a leading Venture Capital firm, and has a background in building technology based businesses including as the Chief Executive of WaikatoLink, the technology transfer company of the University of Waikato. Andrew von Dadelszen has held diverse governance and leadership roles, including central and local government and corporate governance, finance and investment advice, large scale farming, service industries and the not for profit sector. He has been a member of the Board of the Environmental Protection Authority a Crown Agency.
We provide research services for a number of scientific and commercial partners, on a fee for service basis or through collaborative agreements. Kiwifruit | Environmental. Plant Food Research works with a number of M ori owned businesses, Iwi organisations and research groups. Peter has degrees in science and economics and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
As Chief Operating Officer, Dr Campbell is responsible for the science staff within Plant Food Research and for providing effective leadership of company strategy, operational excellence and productivity, business growth, capital investments, regulatory compliance and enhancing relationships with Maori. Dr Campbell is a member of The Royal Society of New Zealand, Institute of Directors in New Zealand and of the International Society of Horticultural Science, and is a director on several Boards Horticulture NZ Vegetable Research and Innovation Board National Centre for Advanced Bio Protection Technologies Jukebox NZ Limited and Kiwifruit Supply Research Limited. Mr Hughes, as Group General Manager Commercial, oversees all aspects of the commercial groups within Plant Food Research, including client and customer management, marketing and communication, international business development, and the commercialisation of plant varieties and cultivars. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, a Director of KiwiNet and Chair of the Biopolymer Network Limited.
Richard Newcomb completed his BSc and MSc in Zoology at the University of Auckland, followed with a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The Australian National University based at the CSIRO in Canberra. Plant Food Research is a New Zealand based science company providing research and development that adds value to fruit, vegetable, crop and food products. Genetic modification offers two potential benefits relevant to this purpose . While there is broad acceptance in New Zealand of the value of genetic modification as a research tool within containment, discussion continues in industry and society as to whether New Zealand should employ genetic modification as a technology in the field at this time, whether solely for research or for the primary production of foodstuffs. Plant Food Research will use genetic modification as a research tool and will further work to develop our capability to potentially harness genetic modification more widely for the benefit of New Zealand should industry and society require this.
Plant Food Research will not seek to develop genetically modified cultivars for commercial release without the clear public support of the relevant New Zealand industry sectors, as well as commercial or research relationships with a clear net benefit to New Zealand. These will only be conducted in New Zealand if there is clear public support from the relevant New Zealand industry sectors and full approval from regulatory authorities. We will make public our Institute stance on genetic modification and will contribute to public consideration of the potential introduction of genetically modified plants and organisms to New Zealand’s primary production sector. We respect the right of our staff to hold views on genetic modification that differ from our Institute policy stance
